Finally getting back to blogging. Can't believe it's been 9 months. Last year at this time, on the advice of my doctor, I dragged my mom to her doctor. He was shocked at her appearance and told me he was starting hospice immediately. She didn't live very much long after that. Everyone was shocked at her passing.
Ever since dad died, she became bitter and angry at the world, alienating both sides of the family. She became a recluse, refusing to leave the house. After many months of doctor visits, psychologist appointments, I gave in and just let her have her way. Eleven years she stayed inside her house, watching tv and doing nothing. Professional caregivers tried to please her but after a few months, familiarity bred contempt and she became ornery again. So we let her have her way.
Cleaning and clearing her house was a cathartic event. I did it alone, by choice. Got it ready to rent to a friend. It feels good to have people there, "living" in the house. They are a wonderful couple and truly care for the house. I think mom and dad would like them too. The house is getting much-needed attention and repair and good new energy.
